Roberto Mata (Valencia, Venezuela, 1967) is a self-taught photographer. His professional career begins in the eighties at a newspaper called El Nacional. In 1993 he opens a photography school, named after him, where more than six thousand students have learned photography. Aside from teaching, Roberto is a comercial and editorial photographer who has done work for several magazines and has a body of work that has won several awards, such as the second prize in the Christian Dior Bienal (1995), The Sebastian Garrido Award in the V Bienal de Artes Plásticas de Puerto la Cruz (2001) and the Grand Prize on the 31st Salón Nacional de Arte Aragua (2006). Roberto has been Frequently asked as a jury member in several national and international photography events, such as LUCEO Student Project Award (USA, 2013) and Poster4Tomorrow (France, 2014). He currently works as the editor for the online magazine ofjournalism Prodavinci.com and teaches photography workshops in Caracas and Miami, Florida, where he also owns a school. He is a member of the prestigious Caracas Press Club and an associate artist at The Bakehouse Art Complex.
